John Fitch war der einzige US-Amerikaner im Mercedes – Benz Werksteam und gewann die Klasse GT bei der Mille Miglia 1955. Er war der zweite Fahrer auf dem Auto des bei den 24 Stunden von Le Mans in LeMans 1955 mit einem 300 SLR verunglückten Pierre Levegh.

John Cooper Fitch was the only US-American in the Mercedes-Benz works team, he won  the GT class at the fifth 1955 Mille Miglia. He was the second driver, besides the killed Pierre Levegh in the 300 SLR, who had the horrible accident at the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1955.
